MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: Loving it!

A new product has been added to my list of fave concealers and it is MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer. It gives good coverage, is easy to blend, has decent lasting power and a nice smooth matte finish.

The only con I have to say about it is that after about 5 to 6 hours, it started to give my undereye areas that subtle cakey look. Still, that may just be something that happens with me. What I really like about this product is a little of it goes a long way. Also, its use is not strictly limited to covering dark undereyes – it can be used on the whole face if needed. I personally like using it as an undereye concealer.

Have any of you tried MAC’s Pro Longwer Concealer? What are your thoughts?

Some rules to follow on buying foundation.

Always opt for water-based and oil-free foundations whenever possible. Even for people with dry or sensitive skin, oil-free foundations are still recommended. Oil (that is not naturally secreted from human glands) is not always advisable for application on facial skin because it is what causes clogged pores, blackheads and acne.

Always check the ingredients before you buy the foundation. The packaging may look appealing and it may be from a respectable company but you should still check the label. Different ingredients will react differently on different people so keep this fact in mind.

Always choose a foundation that is suitable for your skin type. Do your research beforehand to find out what skin type you are. Do it online and ask for a doctor’s opinion whenever possible. In fact, I really do recommend visiting a good dermatologist should you ever get the chance. Some makeup artists will have in-depth knowledge of facial skin care but they might not have as much experience in taking care of it as dermatologists do. (Word to the wise, a good dermatologist is one that will take the time to explain things to you as he/she will not only think of “time=money”. He/she will not rush you into making a decision and will give you all the facts and information you request and need in order to make a decision that benefits YOU.)

–  Be selfish in how you spend your money. It is YOUR money and you have EVERY right to be skeptical about buying any product you come across. There is a possibility that the product may increase in price or be discontinued – but that’s okay because there will always be other similarly (sometimes lower-priced) good products out there to purchase. After all, this is your skin you are subjecting foreign ingredients to. Also, the market prices are forever changing but the ingredients will always remain.

Always try to avoid foundations with too many artificial ingredients present. While rubbing alcohol is known to be a harmless (and at times beneficial) product for the skin (as it is an antiseptic and evaporates quickly), it may not be suitable for certain skin types – specifically those with sensitive skin. Test the product out thoroughly before purchase. If you feel any sort of burning sensation, this may be due to an allergic reaction.

– Last, but not least, a good foundation (for your skin type) is one that blends in well, gives adequate and natural-looking coverage and does not cause any clogged pores, blackheads or break-outs. Nevertheless, always make sure to take your makeup off and wash your face well before you go to bed. Even good foundations can cause break-outs if left on the skin for too long.

Make Up Forever HD foundation

Great oil-free liquid foundation for people with mature skin who want a natural-looking coverage that balances uneven skin pigmentation and does not accentuate wrinkles. Since it is medium to full coverage in consistency, a person of mature skin can use this to their advantage and apply as much as needed. Personally, I found the coverage to be lighter than Make Up Forever’s oil-free Mat Velvet Mattifying foundation (but this is to be somewhat expected as the latter foundation was primarily formulated for people with oily skin.)

Since the HD foundation has moisturizing ingredients, it could also benefit people with normal to dry skin. The fact that it is somewhat watery in consistency makes it easy to apply and blend. It glides onto the skin smoothly and leaves the face with a very fresh-looking finish and a subtle dewy look – an added advantage for people with dry skin.

Al Hashmi Kajal Eyeliner

Some of you have seen in it your local drugstore or beauty shop, some of you have seen Sarah Jessica Parker use it in Sex & the City 2 and some of you have seen it in a random mini-market somewhere…and you might have thought it wasn’t worth a second look. Well, that’s exactly what I thought at first – but after I bought one and tried it, I completely changed my mind.

This little baby has got to be one of the best, if not the best, kajal (kohl) eyeliners I have ever come across. Do not be fooled by the simple packaging, the quality of this eyeliner is beyond superb. Not only does it glide on easily – which is something surprising since it is dry in texture and consistency – it does not smudge…AT ALL. Long-lasting, smudge-proof and very easy to apply in a small, slim blue or red cylinder-shaped container that’s purse-friendly (and even pocket-friendly!) What more could a girl ask for in a decent black kohl eyeliner?

If any of you have heard of any other brands that make kajal (kohl) eyeliner of decent quality, do let me know! For now, Al Hashmi Kajal eyeliner has my vote.

Note: these types of eyeliners are known to contain lead which is a substance that can cause allergic reactions or have negative consequences on the eyes. Personally, I’ve yet to experience any issues, myself, but if I do, I will update this post.

For those of you  that prefer to stick to high-end brands when it comes to certain (or all) beauty products, a good website to check out is:

Most of the branded products available on this site are sold at a lower price than the average market price. You may also be lucky enough to find some discontinued items from certain beauty/makeup lines (but not a guarantee.) There are also various brands of products sold on the site (like Maybelline, Rimmel, L’Oreal, etc…)

Note: for people residing outside or far from the US or Canada, shipping costs can be high.

A reminder note.

Dear Readers,

Different products work differently on different people. What you read here is my own opinion and it may not apply to everyone. Please consider carefully what you choose to spend your money on.

Until next post.

Coastal Scents Brushes

Some of the Coastal Scents brushes are very good for eyeshadow/blusher application and blending. For their budget-friendly prices, they are of really decent quality. Aspiring makeup artists and beauty junkies on a budget might benefit from this.

Some of my favorites are:

Black Blending, Sable Blending, Destiny Blender, Destiny Duo Fiber Stipling and Destiny Kabuki on a Stick.

If you’re interested in seeing whether any of them might work for you, then visit:

Sigma Beauty Makeup Brushes

The synthetic and precision makeup brushes from Sigma Beauty’s “Sigmax” collection are some of the best I’ve come across when it comes to makeup application and blending. The Synthetic Kabuki brushes are great for applying and blending in liquid foundation, patting on face powder or even swiping on blusher to highlight the cheekbones in a manner that looks natural. The precision brushes are very effective at applying and blending in concealer in a manner that avoids lines or cakiness under the eyes or around the nose.

For the quality of these brushes, the pricing is reasonable. Comparable to MAC makeup brushes (and some, I personally think, are better.)

Painless Laser Hair Removal – Kaya Skin Clinic, Dubai (Town Centre)

Is it actually “painless”? Not completely, but it only slightly stung in certain areas. The treatment’s costly price may be due to the equipment being new in the market. Beauty services being pricey in Dubai is nothing surprising.

Personally, I found the personnel to be honest and realistic and the customer service to be decent.

As for the results, time will tell. The brochure itself does specify that you will get results that are up to 80 % visible. Nevertheless, the experts at the clinic did clarify that results might differ from person to person.

In the end, readers, it’s all about trial and error.

Update: I did a total of 5 sessions on the same areas which is usually the minimum requirement to see any results. The first 2 sessions were not very painful, almost painless. The last 3 sessions were not painless at all (for me, at least.) I was advised to use Emla cream to numb the areas before each session but it did not do much difference for me. By the 4th session, I was dreading the idea of attending but I had already paid for the full package and I wanted to see it through to the end. It was very painful & the end result was…nothing. Nothing changed. I still have the same amount of hair growth I started out with. In my opinion, I could have spent that money on something a lot less painful. I hope others find better luck with this treatment as I know not everyone’s body reacts the same way to laser hair removal. Good luck!

Coastal Scents Concealer Palettes and Quads

I recently purchased concealer palettes and quads from Coastal Scents during their Thanksgiving Sale (50 % off) and, having used different products, I would like to give my honest opinion on the products. Of course, in the end, it is up to you – fellow readers – what you choose to consider. You know what you prefer and what works for you.

Eclipse Palette (for product image, click on below link.)

Priced at 14.95 US Dollars, this concealer palette is most likely suitable for people with oily or combination skin. I have oily skin and I found that it worked really well on me. With 15 different shades that you can mix and match together to suit your skin tone, this item is a good deal if you’re wanting to buy a budget-friendly concealer palette.

Camouflage Concealer Palette

Priced at 16.95 US Dollars, this concealer palette has a more creamy consistency and would most likely be suitable for people with normal to dry/sensitive skin. With 10 different concealer shades, you also have the chance to mix and match colors to suit your skin tone. I tried this product and found that while it gave good coverage, it’s not a concealer I would use on a daily basis due to its creamy texture (unsuitable for my oily skin type.)

Camo Quad

For people who are looking for a compact size concealer packet with the basic number of shades, this is a product worth considering. The Camo Quad, as its name points out, has 4 different concealer shades with a semi-creamy and somewhat thick consistency. I found that it gave very good coverage where needed and the fact that it’s small makes it easy and practical to carry in a bag or purse. Budget and size-friendly, this is a concealer palette for a lady that’s always on-the-go and likes to touch up on her makeup throughout the day. Priced at $7.95 and available in Light, Medium and Dark, it’s worth a look-see.

Camo Quad Color Corrector

This Camo Quad is very useful for people who suffer from skin color discoloration, uneven skin pigmentation, skin redness or dark undereyes. It comes in 4 different shades (purple, blue, yellow and green.) It may be a useful makeup product for any lady or makeup artist’s collection.
